10th-11th March 2012 :
On the one-year anniversary of the deadly earthquake/tsunami in northeastern Japan, a remembrance service for the victims was observed on the 3rd floor of the Central World shopping complex. The memorial service was part of a wider event called “HeART for Hope” to also raise funds to help surviving Japanese children as well as child victims of the Andaman Sea tsunami and recent Thai floods through an exhibition and auction of artworks.
Many prominent people attended the event to lend their support, including Thai Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Kittiratt Na-Ranong, the wife of the Japanese ambassador to Thailand, Mrs. Tami Kojima, and Chief Representative of JICA in Thailand, Mr. Kazuhiro Yoneda.
The Baan Than Namchai Foundation (BNC) was one of seven co-organizers of the event. Representatives from the 7 organizations, each carrying an individual letter of HeART for Hope, joined together on stage to assemble their letters into the event’s name before affixing it onto the stage banner. BNC Chairperson Mrs. Rotjana Phrasesrithong, DPF Chairperson, Dr. Sant Hathirat M.D, and DPF Secretary-general, Mrs. Prateep Ungsongtham Hata, combined to affix the letter “e” in “Hope”.
Other interesting activities, such as demonstrations of basic painting, a ballet performance, Japanese classical music recital, and traditional dance from southern Thailand performed by the Baan Than Namchai orphanage children added to the success of the event.
